Dear

I am the owner of an informative website called: www.mickeymantlebaseballcards.net. I am writing to see if you would be interested in a link exchange. We are extremely interested in a small text link within your page content on your homepage or on inner pages. In return, we will link back to you. We will link back to you from our www.mickeymantlebaseballcards.net website or another website that we own. We have several other high quality search engine friendly websites in different niches that we could link to you as well.

This is a serious offer and we are excited to work with you to help us both improve our search engine value. I look forward to your reply.

Best regards,
Gabe

Cool story. I remember writing him a couple of years later (1993, maybe?) and getting some sort of fan club sign-up request along with my unsigned cards. There was no way I was sending him $50 or whatever it was for an autograph. I patiently waited a few more years and got an Upper Deck autograph for $15 or so a couple years ago - with the autograph on the card and not a band aid.

I have the non-error version of the card autographed. I mailed it to him the day he was called up in 1990, and got it back very quickly. Then (within a month) he became a superstar, deluged with mail, and stopped signing TTM.
